Keeping Your Boxing Stand Grounded

There are many reasons why you would want to invest in a boxing stand.  One reason might be because you live in an apartment where the idea of hanging a heavy bag from the ceiling isn't an option.  I know you would never want to potentially damage your home or even risk having to pay for repairs.  We invest in heavy bag stands so we can avoid all of these problems and it makes it easy and convenient to get our heavy bag up and to start training.  Now there seems to be some small challenges that do come up when using some boxing stands.  One challenge that I have come across, among others is the ability to keep the boxing stand in one place while training.

Now some stands might not even need weight.  If you are not a giant or someone doing crazy kicks you might be fine without using any weight at all.  Some stands can hold up on their own and won't need anything extra than what came out of the box when it arrived to your front door.  Just keep in mind when hitting the heavy bag it can cause some heavy bag stands to vibrate, you can get rid of this vibration by adding weight.

Others have different approaches to handling this simple challenge.  I know of boxing stands that come with specific weight racks located at the bottom of the stand, where you can stack free weights on to hold the stand down.  This is a great idea if you have a home gym or extra weights lying around, but if you don't buying barbell plates can be kind of expensive.  Another less expensive way to keep your stand in place is to use a couple hundred pounds of sand bags.  This is a very inexpensive option, the only thing is you might not want sand potentially leaking out of your bags and all over your carpet.  If you are training in the garage or some place you don't mind sand than that might be a great option for you.  And of course there are plenty of other options available for adding weight to your boxing stand, you might just want to go into your garage and see what you have around.  One guy found two 40 pound bags of water softening salt and they worked fine.

Also one last tip when ordering your boxing stand, make sure you know the exact dimensions of the stand and measure it out in your house.  I have heard many times someone thinks that it is a one size fits all homes and it is not.  So I recommend taking the time to find a place where you can put the stand, make sure the dimensions are right, consider what materials you might use if you want to add weight to the stand, and make sure your heavy bag's weight will be supported by the heavy bag stand as well.
